Full-Stack AI Engineer (mid-level)

  • Remote, Hybrid
    • Amsterdam
  • €80,000 - €120,000

Job description

Why we exist

AI is everywhere, shaping how we live and work. We believe it should help people stay in control of their choices, build real connections, and pursue long‑term goals. Autonomy, relationships, and purpose are the foundations of a meaningful life. Ascending AI builds tools that strengthen all three. We deeply believe in this mission and invested €5m of our own capital to stay initially independent and focused on building what matters most.

What we’re building

We’re starting with a product that helps people map their relationships and spot communication patterns, immediate value that makes daily life clearer and more intentional. This is also the foundation for a broader suite of tools designed to protect autonomy, strengthen connections, and support long-term goals.

Your first 30 to 90 days

We are pre‑launch and currently in stealth. You’ll be part of a small, hands-on team shipping quickly. You won’t just code, you’ll help shape product decisions, experiment in the open, and make things work together in scrappy ways. Expect to:

  • Build and ship features end‑to‑end (frontend, backend, LLM services).

  • Work closely with colleagues to integrate agents, RAG pipelines, and data flows into features for users.

  • Set up analytics and error tracking so we learn from every release.

Job requirements

We don’t hire for checklists; we look for people who thrive in early‑stage, high‑trust teams. You’re someone who wants to build, learn, and grow alongside teammates.

  • Shipped real software end‑to‑end and taken full ownership of outcomes.

  • Comfortable across the stack: Node/TypeScript or Python; React/Next; SQL/Postgres.

  • Hands‑on with LLMs: integrated models, worked with agents or RAG, measured and improved latency/quality.

  • Collaborative: co‑design with teammates, share openly, write clear docs, and give/receive feedback.

  • Bias to action: short loops, clear trade‑offs, comfort with ambiguity.

  • Builder first: if you’d rather manage than ship, this isn’t the role.

Nice extras:

  • LLM & agent stack: vector DBs (pgvector/Redis), LangChain/LlamaIndex, MCP.

  • Expertise in privacy‑by‑design, secure data handling, and threat modelling.

  • Infrastructure: AWS/GCP/Vercel; observability with Sentry/OpenTelemetry.

  • Product surfaces: mobile apps, browser extensions.

  • Analytics: PostHog, Amplitude.

This is a remote or hybrid role. We work primarily in the Central European time zone and expect candidates to be within ±3 hours of CET to keep alignment and syncs tight.
